Lime is an essential reagent for non-ferrous mining industries.
Applications of lime can be different from one industry to another.
Lhoist classifies those into two categories:
-
Lime uses in the metal extraction process:
- Lime is commonly used in the flotation of sulphide ores to facilitate concentration of the desired metal. This application is largely practiced in the Copper, Zinc, Nickel, Gold and Lead mining industries.
- Lime is used to boost and control pH of cyanide Gold and Silver leach solutions. By adjusting pH, the role of lime is to maintain the cyanide solution in liquid form, avoiding the formation and loss of cyanide gas into the environment.
-
Lime uses in the treatment of acidic effluents produced by the extraction process and by the mining drainage (AMD):
- Lime is vital to mining industries to adjust pH of wastewater from mining process and mining drainage. Lime adjusts pH and the effluent is purified of its metals and soluble salts, complying with environmental regulations.
Lhoist has a long experience in producing and providing high cost-effective lime solutions for mining industries, including gold, copper, aluminium, zinc, nickel, uranium, and other industries.
