Discover the multiple functionalities of lime and minerals
In the extraction process of (type B) gelatin from animal hides and bones, lime maintains the required high pH levels.
Limestone and dolomite are ingredients in calcium ammonium nitrate-based fertilizers.
Lime reacts with carbon at high temperatures to produce calcium carbide (CaC2). This is used as a raw material to produce fertilizers or acetylene. It is also part of the refining processes in steel making.
Calcium phosphates are produced as a result of the reaction of lime or limestone with phosphoric acid. These are part of foodstuffs, toothpastes, pharmaceuticals and fertilizers.
Hydrated lime is used for fruit conservation; to capture CO2 during fruit ripening in conservation fridges.
Citric acid is purified with lime for the food and drink industry, as well as for detergents and chemicals.
