Lhoist North America announces two new hydration facilities
With the continued success of Sorbacal® SP and Sorbacal® SPS in dry sorbent injection (DSI) applications and the growing market demand due to a number of upcoming regulations, Lhoist North America (LNA) is tripling its U.S. capacity with the addition of two new Sorbacal® SP/SPS hydrators in the U.S. These two new hydration facilities are under construction today and both are expected to be commercialized in the first quarter of 2016, in time for utility Mercury and Air Toxics Standard (MATS) as well as industrial boiler Maximum Achievable Control Technology (MACT) compliance deadlines. The location for these new facilities will be at LNA’s Ste. Genevieve, MO and Calera, AL production sites.
LNA has performed dozens of full scale trials with Sorbacal® SP and SPS, successfully demonstrating compliance to upcoming regulations for HCl, SO3, HF, and SO2. Sorbacal® SP/SPS products provide savings opportunities in terms of consumption reductions from 30% to greater than 65%. Sorbacal® SPS can be used as an effective alternative to sodium products for various removal targets, including SO2. LNA’s customer base for Sorbacal® SP and Sorbacal® SPS covers a multitude of applications including coal fired utility boilers, biomass boilers, cement plants, industrial boilers, chemical manufacturing processes, glass manufacturing, ceramic tile and others.
Sorbacal® SP and SPS are ready-to-use in new or existing DSI systems, without any special handling provision or further processing (no milling). These unique calcium hydroxide products make calcium-based DSI a viable acid gas control option for utility MATS and Cross-State Air Pollution Rule (CSAPR) compliance and have been shown to be a very effective alternative to sodium based technology, with lower coal combustion residue concerns due to disposal/reuse.
