CalCC: First industrial-scale carbon capture for lime production

At Lhoist’s Réty plant in France, we are studying the capture and permanent storage of more than 600,000 tons CO₂ per year – corresponding to over 80% of the CO2 site’s emissions. The study includes CO2 capture using Air Liquide’s fully electric, cryogenic Cryocap™ FG CO2 capture technology, followed by pipeline transport, a terminal connection in the West Port of Dunkirk, shipping and permanent CO2 offshore storage in the North Sea.

This work forms part of an integrated value chain that also includes the D’Artagnan pipeline/terminal project as well as the K6 project (Eqiom cement plant).

The project started in 2022 with Front-End Engineering Design (FEED) and permitting activities, and is supported by the EU Innovation Fund Large Scale (IFLS). The consortium brings together Lhoist, Air Liquide, Dunkerque LNG, and Eqiom.

The activities are supported by the EU Innovation Fund Large Scale and Connecting Europe Facilities CEF
