This publicly funded European Horizon Program R&D project focuses on the electrification of high-temperature industrial processes to enable emission-free lime and cement production between 2024 and 2027. Coordinated by VTT (Finland), the consortium brings together leading academic institutions as well as industrial partners from the cement, lime, and pulp & paper sectors.
Lhoist contributes to the electrified pilot campaigns by providing samples, conducting flue gas analysis, and supporting process modeling. The pilots include electrified rotary kilns (50–300 kW capacity) using plasma torch technology, resistively heated rotary and fluidized bed kilns, and a fluidized bed reactor with plasma heating. These pilots are operated at various scales in Sweden, Norway, and Finland.
